Wildlife and uses

Bulbs are eaten by bears and cached for winter by small rodents. Green pods are eaten by large grazers.

This species is not easily maintained west of the Cascades. Plants from lowland stock are more easily established, and will often self-seed. Corms need protection from gophers. Ssp. candidum, occurring from e. WA to w. MT, has white flowers.

Good for: Restoration, Wildlife, Landscape
